Preludes and Fugue and Double Concerto, works of mature age, although not yet old age, are primarily music for adults, requiring reflection, patience and restraint in their assessments. You can fall in love at first sight at any age. Discourage, also. But in order to make friends in adulthood, you need to ‘spend time’ with the person in whom you are interested. Which is what I encourage. And let us remember that what Lutosławski liked best was experiencing his music as if from a bird’s-eye view, with awareness of the entire form and memory of its details. I know, everyone has little time today. But maybe sometimes it’s not worth postponing important and interesting things for later.
