Lutosławski’s chamber music is not only a condensation of his compositional method. It is also, perhaps even more than his works for orchestra, a kind of psychological self-portrait: an artist-watchmaker and constructor, but at the same time a poet; a person who is discreet, introverted and quite cold, but not devoid of empathy and a sense of humour. Someone very mature, although sometimes childish in his maturity, interested in the world, but choosing from it only what really interested him.
Rafał Augustyn
