The ninth disc of our series is in fact a continuation of the seventh. Here we have Lutosławski writing for children (though not necessarily ‘about children’), as successor to the great traditions of Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Debussy and – in particular – Bartók. As well as an artist meandering across a specific territory somewhere between ‘adult’ and childlike folklore (which areas often intermesh) and – occasionally, albeit evidently – venturing into the realm of musical didactics, in this instance completely adult and artistically self-determining. At the same time, we have here a reference to the first disc of Complete Works with chamber music, since it contains two authorial adaptations of: Bucolics and four of the Folk Melodies.
In terms of dramaturgy, the recording is a hybrid of interwoven vocal and instrumental works. From a historical perspective – a document of the composer’s creativity from the 1950s (…)
