The most important new pieces for old instruments are created in collaboration with composers, which is why all four pieces on this album had their origins in Aleksandrowicz’s meeting with their creators.
The album opens with Zbigniew Bargielski’s 1988 composition On the Other Side of Silence. This is a piece originally composed for clarinet and string quartet (On the Other Side of the Mirror); the oboe version was prepared by the composer in 2014 at the request of the 11th Ensemble Festival in Książ. Marcin Markowicz’s Miniatures also had its premiere at the festival in Książ, but in 2009. Jan Duszyński and Aleksander Kościów composed their works in 2017. (...)
The songs on the album raise questions rather than providing answers, and they do so in a very subtle way. Still, from the first to the last sounds, one has the impression of being in touch with a mystery – despite the words appearing, unverbalised, expressed metaphorically in sounds. This is an invitation constantly to go to the other side of the mirror, into the world of your own imagination.
